Coal Trading

Waves Group involved in the global trade and distribution of steam coal across the world. We offer business to business solution for your company’s coal requirement. We offer wide range of coal products such as Indian coal, Imported coal, Lignite coal from different parts of the world, with various quality and sizes.

Waves Group is engaged into dealing in different types of coal since last many years.

Imported Coal

This coal will be procured for direct supply to our customers for their imported coal-based projects. The size of the investment for these projects will depend on the size of the coal mines. The company’s plans are consistent with its strategy of ensuring coal supplies to the customers. Imported coal typically has a higher calorific value, which reduces wastage and also improves the generation efficiency of these power projects. Analysts estimate that 1 tonne of imported coal is equivalent to 1.56 tonnes of domestic coal.

Coal mining costs are expected to rise, too, due to demand pressures on equipment and human resources in particular, but it will still have value for the investors who choose to mine rather than purchase at prevailing market rates.

Indian Coal

Coal has been recognized as the most important source of energy for electricity generation in India. About 75% of the coal in India is consumed in the power sector. In addition, other industries like steel, cement, fertilizers, chemicals, paper and thousands of medium and small-scale industries are also dependent on coal for their process and energy requirements. In the transport sector, though direct consumption of coal by the Railways is almost negligible on account of phasing out of steam locomotives, the energy requirement for electric traction is still dependent on coal converted into electric power.

The coal reserves of India up to the depth of 1200 m have been estimated by the Geological Survey of India at 247.85 billion tonnes as on January 1, 2005 of which 92 billion tonnes are proven. Hard coal deposits spread over 27 major coalfields, are mainly confined to eastern and south central parts of India.

Lignite Coal

Lignite is brownish-black in color and has a carbon content of around 25-35%, a high inherent moisture content sometimes as high as 66%, and an ash content ranging from 6% to 19% compared with 6% to 12% for bituminous coal.

The heat content of lignite ranges from 10 to 20 MJ/kg (9 to 17 million Btu per short ton) on a moist, mineral-matter-free basis. The heat content of lignite consumed in the United States averages 13 million Btu/ton (15 MJ/kg), on the as-received basis (i.e., containing both inherent moisture and mineral matter). When reacted with quaternary amine, amine treated lignite (ATL) forms. ATL is used in drilling mud to reduce fluid loss.

Lignite has a high content of volatile matter which makes it easier to convert into gas and liquid petroleum products than higher ranking coals. However, its high moisture content and susceptibility to spontaneous combustion can cause problems in transportation and storage.

Because of its low energy density, brown coal is inefficient to transport and is not traded extensively on the world market compared with higher coal grades. It is often burned in power stations constructed very close to any mines, such as in Australia's Latrobe Valley and Luminant's Monticello plant in Texas. Carbon dioxide emissions from brown coal fired plants are generally much higher than for comparable black coal plants, with the world's worst polluting being the brown coal fueled Hazelwood Power Station, Victoria. The operation of brown coal plants, particularly in combination with strip mining, can be politically contentious due to environmental concerns.

Lignite is geologically younger than higher-grade coals, originating mainly in the Tertiary period.
